Buy the META26 if you commute. It has a torque sensor, hydraulic brakes with cut-off switches, a doubling battery bay and a manageable 68.4 lb, for $1,699. Buy the SPECTER-S if you climb, and if being able to judge a bike before you own it is worth paying for: a named Bafang G510 at 160 Nm, SRAM 11-speed, published suspension travel at both ends, two frame sizes, a 300 lb payload and a stated UL certification, at $2,999 and 110 lb.

The $1,300 between them, and what it is not for

The META26 1.0 is $1,699. The SPECTER-S 3.0 is $2,999. That is $1,300 between the cheapest bike EUNORAU sells and the dearest bike on this site, and it makes the pair the cleanest test of the argument that runs underneath everything here.

Both bikes have a torque sensor. Both roll on 26-inch wheels. Both use 180mm hydraulic disc brakes with motor cut-off switches in the levers. Both take an optional second battery. Both carry a two-year warranty. On the specifications a shopper usually checks first, they are close.

The extra $1,300 buys no additional watt-hours worth having

Anyone shopping on capacity should stop here and buy the META26, or look further down the price ladder entirely. What the SPECTER-S is selling is not stored energy. It is a drivetrain, a suspension design, a frame in your size, and a listing that answers questions the META26's listing does not.

The motor, the gears and the ground

A hub motor and a mid-drive are different machines

EUNORAU rates the META26 at 500W with 55 Nm — the lowest torque figure on this site — from a rear hub motor. The SPECTER-S runs a 1000W Bafang G510, also sold as the M620, at 160 Nm from the cranks.

The location matters more than the number. A hub motor drives the wheel directly, so its 55 Nm is 55 Nm whatever gear you are in; the cassette only changes what your legs contribute. A mid-drive turns the chainring, so its output passes through the gears before it reaches the ground, and in a low gear that multiplies the torque at the wheel far beyond the figure on the box. This is why a mid-drive climbs things a hub motor grinds to a halt on, and why our e-bike for hills guide treats the two as separate categories rather than two points on a scale.

If you ride flat and rolling ground, none of that is worth $1,300. If you have a climb you plan your week around, it may be worth more than that.

Eleven gears against seven, and a name that outlives the warranty

The SPECTER-S uses SRAM NX 11-speed gearing, the only 11-speed drivetrain on this site. That is not badge value: a wide-range cassette is precisely what converts a mid-drive's torque into usable climbing, because the low gear is where the multiplication happens. The META26 has Shimano 7-speed, which is entirely adequate behind a hub motor that does not care what gear you are in.

The Bafang name matters for a less exciting reason. The G510 is used across many brands, so displays, spares, firmware and independent shops that know it are all findable years after purchase. EUNORAU publishes the controller as 48V 30A rather than a peak wattage, which works out at roughly 1,440W of electrical input at full draw. For the META26, EUNORAU publishes no peak figure at all.

Suspension, sizing and speed

Travel published at both ends

The META26 has a front suspension fork, described as exactly that and no further. The SPECTER-S has an inverted fork with 140mm of published travel and a DNM rear shock with 190mm, both components named.

That is mountain-bike-grade specification rather than a generic dual-shock claim, and it is the difference between a bike you can evaluate and one you have to take on trust. It is also, straightforwardly, far more suspension: front-only against full, with numbers you can compare against anything else on the market.

The only bike here that comes in sizes

EUNORAU offers the SPECTER-S in 17-inch and 19-inch frames, with a published fit range of 5'3" to 6'4". Nothing else on this site is offered in more than one frame size.

On a full-suspension bike that is not a nicety. Sizing a hardtail is largely a seat-height problem, and a long seatpost absorbs a lot of it. On full suspension the reach and the linkage geometry are fixed by the frame, and no adjustment recovers a frame that is wrong for you. The META26 comes in one 18-inch step-through frame with a 5'4" to 6'3" fit range, which is a perfectly sensible commuter answer and not the same thing.

28 MPH, and where that sits

The META26 tops out at 20 MPH. The SPECTER-S claims 28 MPH, which is exactly the Class 3 ceiling under the three-class framework most US states use. That is a deliberate place to sit: a bike claiming more than 28 falls outside the framework entirely in many states, with consequences for how it is treated legally. Class 3 access to shared-use paths still varies by state and city, so check locally rather than assuming.

Certification and the rest of the disclosure

The SPECTER-S is the only EUNORAU model whose listing states a certification. That is a genuine advantage over the META26, whose listing states none — and it comes with a qualification.

Elsewhere the SPECTER-S is the better-documented bike by a margin: named fork and shock with travel figures, named tires, named drivetrain, named motor, named display, two frame sizes, a fit range, a 300 lb payload and a 5 to 8 hour charge time. The META26 is not badly documented — it names its Samsung cells, its Innova tires, its shifter and its 5 to 7 hour charge — but it publishes 286 lb of payload against 300, and it publishes no peak motor output.

Neither bike publishes a water-resistance rating.

What the META26 keeps

This is the SPECTER-S's real cost, and it is not printed on the price tag. At 110 lb it will not go on a standard car rack rated for the usual 60 lb per bike, it does not go up stairs, and it does not get picked up alone if it falls. It wants ground-level storage and a ramp if it travels.

The META26 at 68.4 lb is heavy by bicycle standards and ordinary by e-bike standards. You can get it over a kerb and onto a decent hitch rack. For a great many buyers that single difference outranks everything in the sections above.

Thirteen hundred dollars, and what else it could be

The other thing the META26 keeps is the money. $1,300 buys the optional second battery, a proper lock, decent lights, a service plan and a set of tires, with change. On a commuter that spend probably improves the riding more than 105 additional newton-metres you will use on four days a year.

Where the META26 is genuinely weaker

Payload. EUNORAU rates it to 286 lb, the lowest ceiling on this site, against 300 lb for the SPECTER-S — and the figure covers rider, clothing, lock, bag and contents together. And 55 Nm is 55 Nm. On a steep loaded climb it is the weakest motor we cover.

Range: both expand, and both claims need dividing

The META26 takes a second 15Ah pack: 48V × 15Ah = 720Wh each, so 1,440Wh together. The SPECTER-S takes an optional second 15Ah pack alongside its 17.5Ah standard: 48V × 17.5Ah = 840Wh plus 48V × 15Ah = 720Wh, giving 1,560Wh.

EUNORAU claims up to 100 miles for the META26 on two packs. 1,440Wh ÷ 100 = 14.4Wh per mile, which is achievable at low assist with a light rider on flat ground and optimistic otherwise. At a more typical 20Wh per mile, 1,440Wh ÷ 20 ≈ 72 miles, and a single pack gives 720Wh ÷ 20 ≈ 36 miles.

For the SPECTER-S they claim up to 80 miles on two packs. 1,560Wh ÷ 80 = 19.5Wh per mile, which is a believable figure for a mid-drive with a torque sensor ridden sensibly, and a more honest claim than the META26's. On the standard pack alone at 20Wh per mile, 840Wh ÷ 20 ≈ 42 miles. Note that 110 lb and 26 × 4.0-inch tires push consumption up, so treat 25Wh per mile as the pessimistic case: 840Wh ÷ 25 ≈ 34 miles.

All of these are estimates from published capacity rather than measurements. Why claimed range is never the range you get covers where headline figures originate.

The decision

If the honest description of your riding is a commute, errands and a weekend loop on roads and paths, buy the META26 and put some of the difference into the second battery. It has the sensor, the brakes, the app, a sane weight and the arithmetic-backed range doubling. Check the 286 lb payload against your own loaded total before ordering, because that is the one place it will catch you out.

If you climb, or you ride rough ground properly, or you are at either end of the height range and need a frame that fits, the SPECTER-S is the more complete machine and it is complete in ways that matter for years — a motor with an aftermarket, gearing that makes the torque usable, suspension you can evaluate, and a certification on the listing. It is also 110 lb and $3.57 per watt-hour, and those two facts should be at the front of your mind rather than the back.

What you should not do is buy the SPECTER-S expecting it to be a better commuter. It is not, and $1,300 of the price is a capability that a commute never asks for. Common questions

Is the SPECTER-S worth $1,300 more than the META26?

Only if you use what it adds. On stored energy it is poor value: $1,699 ÷ 720Wh ≈ $2.36 per watt-hour against $2,999 ÷ 840Wh ≈ $3.57, for 120Wh more. What the money buys is a Bafang G510 mid-drive at 160 Nm, SRAM NX 11-speed gearing, full suspension with 140mm front and 190mm rear travel published, two frame sizes, 28 MPH, a 300 lb payload and a stated UL certification. For a flat commute, none of that earns $1,300. For steep loaded climbing, most of it does.

Do both bikes have a torque sensor?

Yes, and it is one of the few places they genuinely match. EUNORAU states a torque sensor for both, so on both the motor measures how hard you are pressing and scales assist to match, rather than simply switching on when the cranks turn. That makes both bikes feel like bicycles rather than throttles with pedals. It also means the sensor is not a reason to prefer one over the other — the difference is what the sensor is attached to.

How much does the weight difference matter?

A great deal, and it is the SPECTER-S’s hidden price. EUNORAU states 68.4 lb for the META26 and about 110 lb for the SPECTER-S. At 110 lb the bike will not go on a standard car rack rated for 60 lb per bike, will not go up stairs, and cannot be picked up alone if it falls; it needs ground-level storage and a ramp to travel. The META26 is heavy but manageable. For many buyers that single figure settles the comparison before any performance number does.

Is the SPECTER-S properly UL certified?

EUNORAU states UL certification on the listing but does not name the standard, which leaves a real ambiguity: UL 2271 certifies the battery pack, UL 2849 certifies the complete electrical system including charger, controller and motor. They are not interchangeable, and a building manager asking for certification usually means the second. It is still the only EUNORAU model stating any certification — the META26’s listing states none. If certification is why you are buying, ask EUNORAU which standard applies, in writing.

Which one goes further?

The SPECTER-S with both packs, on paper: 48V × 17.5Ah = 840Wh plus a 720Wh second pack gives 1,560Wh, against the META26’s 720Wh × 2 = 1,440Wh. EUNORAU claims up to 80 miles and up to 100 miles respectively, which imply 19.5Wh and 14.4Wh per mile — the SPECTER-S claim is the more believable of the two. At a common 20Wh per mile, 1,560Wh ÷ 20 ≈ 78 miles and 1,440Wh ÷ 20 ≈ 72 miles. All estimates, not measurements.
