Affiliate disclosure

Ebike Rider may earn a commission when you purchase through links on this site. This does not affect the price you pay, and it does not affect what we write.

The short version

Ebike Rider takes part in affiliate programmes. When you click an outbound link to a merchant and buy something, we may receive a commission from that merchant.

You pay exactly the same price. The commission is paid out of the merchant's margin, not added to your total. There is no code to enter, nothing to opt into, and no version of the product that costs less if you avoid our link.

This disclosure is required under the US Federal Trade Commission's Endorsement Guides (16 CFR Part 255), and we would make it anyway. A reader who does not know how a site is paid cannot properly weigh what it says.

Which merchants

We link to four merchants, and they are the four brands the site covers:

Where we have been accepted into a merchant's affiliate programme, outbound links to that merchant carry a tracking identifier so the sale can be attributed to us. Where we have not been accepted, the link is a plain outbound link and earns us nothing. We publish it either way, because a reader needs to be able to reach the product regardless of our commercial position.

Every commercial outbound link on this site carries rel="nofollow sponsored noopener" and opens in a new tab. In practice, any button reading "Check current price" or any link that takes you to a brand's own product page should be assumed to be an affiliate link. Links between pages within Ebike Rider are ordinary internal links and earn us nothing.

We also record an anonymous affiliate_click event in analytics when an outbound link is used, so we can see which pages are actually helping people reach a product. That event carries no personal information — the privacy policy sets out what analytics does and does not collect, including that it may be switched off entirely.

What commission does not buy

  • Ranking position. Rankings across the site are written from the specifications and the price, and the reasoning is printed each time. A $689 bike beating a $2,999 bike for a particular reader is a normal outcome here, and it is the opposite of what commission maximisation would produce.
  • Removal of criticism. Every review names the things the brand does not publish, the claims we think are optimistic and the components we would want upgraded. Nothing gets softened because a link earns money. AMYET's missing torque figures, sensor types and bike weights are on every AMYET page; the missing payload figure for the EUNORAU FLASH 2.0 is on its page.
  • Coverage itself. We cover these 22 models because they are what people are choosing between in this price band, not because of a commission rate.
  • Verdicts. The verdict on a bike is written before anything is known about what it pays, and it is not revisited afterwards.

What we do not do

We do not accept payment for reviews, rankings or inclusion. We do not run display advertising. We do not publish sponsored posts or paid guest articles. We do not sell newsletter placements, because there is no newsletter. We do not accept free bikes, discounted bikes or loaned review units from any brand — which is also why we have not ridden them, and why how we review says so on every page.

We have no undisclosed commercial relationship with AMYET, VTUVIA, EUNORAU or anyone else beyond the affiliate arrangements described here. If that ever changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top changes too.

Prices and availability

We are not the merchant. We do not set prices, hold stock, ship anything or control what a listing says on the day you read it.

Every price on this site carries the date it was read from the merchant's listing, and every price in our prose matches the figure in the underlying data file. Prices change without notice, and the figure on the merchant's own page at the moment you check out is the only one that counts. Where our check has gone stale, we replace the number with a link to the merchant rather than show you something that may now be wrong.

Independence statement

AMYET, VTUVIA, EUNORAU and Velotric are trademarks of their respective owners. Ebike Rider is an independent publication and is not the official website of any brand it covers.

Questions about any of this are welcome at hello@ebikerider.us, or through the contact page.
