Our verdict — BEST FOR HUNTING

The SN100 is VTUVIA’s hunting bike, and for once the category label describes something real. The 400 lb payload is the highest VTUVIA publishes — above the Zeal LT7’s 350 lb — and third highest on this site behind Velotric’s Nomad 1 Plus and Packer 1 at 440 lb each. It has a torque sensor as standard, 26 × 4-inch tires, hydraulic discs, Shimano 7-speed gearing and integrated lights, and the battery is LG-celled with a UL claim attached. The catch is that the UL claim names no standard. "With UL certification" is not the same sentence as "UL 2271 and UL 2849", which is what VTUVIA writes for the SF20H, and we record it as the weaker claim it is. On price it lands at $1,599 for 672Wh, about $2.38 per watt-hour, exactly level with the SX20 — but where the SX20 charges that for a folding frame, the SN100 charges it for the payload, the sensor and the bigger wheel. That is the better trade.

Buy it if

  • You are a heavier rider, or you carry gear. 400 lb is the most VTUVIA rates any bike to carry.
  • You ride slowly over broken ground and want assist that answers your legs rather than a switch — the torque sensor is the reason.
  • You want a 26-inch fat tire rather than VTUVIA’s 20-inch folders, for composure in ruts and long grass.
  • You want lights fitted rather than bought, because you set off before it is light.

Skip it if

  • You need a named certification standard. "With UL certification" names none; the SF20H names two for $200 less.
  • You want distance for your money. 672Wh at $1,599 is $2.38 per watt-hour, where the same pack on the SF20H costs $2.08.
  • You need a stated top speed and class for shared-path riding — neither is published.

SN100 — common questions

What does "with UL certification" actually mean here?

Less than it appears to. UL publishes different standards for different things: UL 2271 certifies the battery pack, UL 2849 certifies the whole electrical system — battery, charger, controller and motor tested together. VTUVIA names both for the SF20H. For the SN100 they write "with UL certification" and stop, so we record an unnamed claim and no more. If you need a standard for a building manager or an insurer, ask VTUVIA to state which one in writing.

Is the 400 lb payload rider weight or total weight?

Total. A payload rating covers the rider plus everything the bike carries — pack, gear, rack load, anything strapped on. So if you weigh 220 lb, you have 180 lb left for the rest, and that allowance is what makes this bike interesting for hunting or heavy commuting rather than the number on its own.

How far will the SN100 go?

VTUVIA claims up to 70 miles on pedal assist. The pack holds 672Wh, so 70 miles would need 9.6Wh per mile, which no 26 × 4-inch fat tire manages with an adult aboard. At a fairly typical 20Wh per mile the arithmetic gives about 34 miles, and riding loaded on soft ground will pull that down further. Treat 70 as the ceiling under ideal conditions and plan around 30 to 35.

Does a torque sensor matter on a hunting bike?

More than on a commuter, we would argue. A cadence sensor delivers whatever assist level you have selected the moment the cranks move, which on slow technical ground can arrive as a shove exactly when you did not want one. A torque sensor scales the motor to your own effort, so the bike creeps when you creep. That control is the SN100’s quietest advantage.

SN100 or SX20?

Same price, $1,599, and the same 672Wh pack, so the money buys different things. The SX20 folds, fits riders from five foot, and lets you switch between torque and cadence sensing. The SN100 carries 400 lb rather than 330 lb, runs 26-inch wheels rather than 20-inch, has lights fitted, and states a UL claim — unnamed, but more than the SX20’s nothing. If you carry weight over rough ground, the SN100. If you need the fold, the SX20.
