Our verdict — BEST FOR CARGO
The Packer 1 is the most expensive bike Velotric sells that we cover, and the only genuine cargo bike on this site. Two numbers explain it. The rear rack is rated at 176 lb, which is not a pannier rating — it is enough for an adult passenger or two children on a long tail. And the brakes are four-piston hydraulic discs on 180 mm rotors: several bikes here run 180 mm rotors too, but every one of them on a two-piston caliper, and four pistons is what a 75 lb bike carrying 176 lb actually needs. The 26-inch front and 20-inch rear wheel combination lowers the load deck without shortening the front end, so it steers like a bike rather than like a trolley. Against that: 691.2Wh has to move all of it, the range figures assume a 187-lb rider and, by implication, an empty rack, and at 75 lb it is the heaviest hub-motor bike we cover. If you are not carrying anything, you are paying $2,199 for capability you will never use.

Velotric list the Packer 1 at $2,199 with no reduction against it, as of the price check in our data file on August 27, 2026. That makes it the dearest of the three Velotrics we cover, though not the dearest bike here — the EUNORAU SPECTER-S still holds that at $2,999.
The battery is 48V and 14.4Ah, which is 691.2 watt-hours: effectively the same pack as the Nomad 1 Plus at 691Wh. Divide the price by it and you get $2,199 ÷ 691.2Wh = $3.18 per watt-hour.

Only the T1 ST Plus at $3.97 and the SPECTER-S at $3.57 cost more per watt-hour. The Nomad, carrying the same energy in a lighter frame, is $2.75. So the Packer asks $300 more than its stablemate for no extra range whatsoever, and the honest way to read that is as $300 for hardware rather than for capacity. Two pieces of hardware, mainly.

This is not a pannier rating. Most racks fitted to bikes on this site are rated for luggage, and where a figure exists at all it is a modest one — VTUVIA sell a rack separately for the Zeal LT7 and rate that at 50 lb. A 176 lb rear rack is a different category of object: it is enough for an adult passenger, or for two children on a long tail, and it is what turns a heavy bike into a cargo bike.
The whole-bike rating is 440 lb, joint highest on this site alongside the Nomad, and the two figures work together rather than in sequence. A 200 lb rider with a 176 lb passenger is 376 lb, inside both. What the rating does not tell you is whether that is comfortable or legal: you will want Velotric’s passenger accessories, and carrying a person on a bicycle is regulated state by state. Check your own rule before you plan a school run around it.
The brakes are hydraulic discs with four pistons on 180 mm rotors.
The rotor size is the part that gets misread. One hundred and eighty millimetres is not unusual here — VTUVIA and EUNORAU fit 180 mm rotors too, and only the T1 ST Plus runs anything smaller. The unusual part is the piston count. Every other caliper on this site is a two-piston unit. The Packer is the only four-piston bike we cover.
More pistons press a longer pad against the rotor with more even pressure. In practice that means more braking force for the same pull at the lever, more modulation before the wheel locks, and far better resistance to fade on a long descent. On a 75 lb bike carrying up to 176 lb, all three are load-bearing rather than decorative. This is the one specification on the Packer that is not a marketing number.
The Packer is the only mixed-wheel bike on this site: a 26-inch front wheel on a CST 26 × 2.4 in tire, and a 20-inch rear on a 20 × 3.0 in.
The reason is load height. A smaller rear wheel drops the rack and everything on it closer to the ground, which lowers the centre of mass of a loaded bike and makes it markedly easier to hold upright at a standstill and to steer with weight aboard. Shrinking the front wheel as well would buy the same low deck and pay for it with twitchy steering and a harsher ride over kerbs. Keeping 26 inches at the front gets the benefit without the penalty; our 20 vs 26 inch guide explains the trade in both directions. The costs are minor: it looks odd, and you keep two sizes of spare tube instead of one.
Velotric claim up to 52 miles on pedal assist and up to 45 miles on throttle, with the conditions printed underneath: a 187-lb rider using PAS 1 on flat roads. No other brand on this site states any test conditions at all, which is why we quote Velotric’s footnote every time we quote their number.

Both of those are plausible draws for an unloaded bike on the flat at the lowest assist level. Note what the footnote implies but does not say: a 187-lb rider on flat roads is a bike with nothing on the rack. The figure describes the Packer doing none of the job it was built for.
That is the central tension of the bike. Velotric have given it the same battery as the lighter Nomad and asked it to do considerably more work, and the pack is integrated into the down tube rather than removable, so you cannot carry a spare or bring it inside on its own. If your cargo runs are long as well as heavy, do the sum above before you order. Our battery and range guide sets out the method.
At 75 lb the Packer is the heaviest hub-motor bike on this site, and it is worth being precise about that claim, because the obvious version of it is wrong. It is not the heaviest bike here: EUNORAU’s FLASH and SPECTER-S are both about 110 lb. Those two are mid-drives; ten of the twelve bikes we cover, the Packer included, use rear hub motors.
Seventy-five pounds is five pounds more than the step-through Nomad and nearly twice the T1 ST Plus. It is not a bike you lift, carry up steps or hang on a wall, and the integrated battery means the one component you might have taken indoors stays where it is. Against that, Velotric fit a dual-leg spring-loaded centre-mount kickstand, which is the correct stand for a bike you load while it is parked and a detail cheaper cargo bikes routinely get wrong.
Velotric state UL 2849 certification for the bike, UL 2271 Recognized for the battery, ISO 4210 compliance and an IPX6 rating. The cells are LG 21700. One oddity: on this model that certification claim appears in the product page copy rather than in the specification table, where both other Velotrics put it in the table. The wording is identical to theirs, so it reads as a formatting difference rather than a substantive one — but it is the sort of thing worth confirming in writing if certification is a condition of where you keep the bike.
All three Velotrics state both UL numbers, which no other brand here manages across a range. Outside Velotric, only VTUVIA’s SF20H names both.
One gap on the Packer stands out above the others: there is no rider height range. Both other Velotrics publish one, and the Nomad publishes two. On a cargo frame, standover and reach are what decide whether you can plant a foot and hold a loaded bike upright at a junction, which makes this the single specification a buyer most needs and the one Velotric does not give.
Three more. No peak motor output, only the 750W rated figure and 75 Nm of torque. No charge time, which is true across the range. And no chainring size, crank length or cassette range — the drivetrain is listed only as a Shimano 8-speed, where both stablemates publish all three. The Packer is also a cadence-sensor bike, like the Nomad and unlike the cheapest bike in the range.
Against the Nomad 1 Plus, $300 buys the 176 lb rack, the four-piston brakes, the mixed wheels, fenders, the dual-leg stand and an IPX6 rating. It costs you four to five pounds, a removable battery, four-inch tires and a published fit range. The two share a motor, a torque figure, a sensor and effectively the same pack. If what you carry is a laptop and a lock, the Nomad is the better bike and the cheaper one, and this is not a close call.
Against the wider field the Packer has no direct rival on this site, because nothing else here is a cargo bike. The EUNORAU FLASH has 220 Nm and more energy for $300 more, and is a full-suspension mid-drive rather than a load carrier. Buy the Packer 1 if you are carrying people or real weight, and if you want a bike that brakes as though it expects to be loaded. Skip it if you are not, because most of $2,199 is capability you would never touch — and on the measure this site cares most about, $3.18 per watt-hour, you are paying a premium for range you do not get.

What the rating does not tell you is comfort or legality: you will want the passenger accessories, and carrying a person on a bicycle is regulated differently state by state. Check your own rule before you plan around it.

Several bikes on this site use 180 mm rotors too, but all of them on two-piston calipers. On a 75 lb bike carrying up to 176 lb, that is working near its limit. This is the one specification on the Packer that is not a marketing number: it is the difference between stopping and nearly stopping.
A small rear wheel drops the rack and the load closer to the ground, which makes a loaded bike far more stable and easier to get on and off its stand. Doing the same with a small front wheel would make the steering twitchy and the ride harsh over kerbs. Keeping 26 inches at the front and shrinking only the rear gets the low deck without that penalty. The cost is a slightly odd look and two different tire sizes to keep spares for.
Less than the 52-mile claim, and Velotric's own footnote is why: the figure assumes a 187-lb rider at PAS 1 on flat roads, which implies nothing on the rack. Moving a 75 lb bike plus a rider plus 100 lb of cargo through 20-inch rear tires draws far more than the roughly 13Wh per mile that claim implies. Plan on 20 to 25 miles fully loaded and treat anything more as a good day.
