The short answer
Five hundred dollars separates the two, and almost every specification separates them further: 39 lb against 70 to 71 lb, 352.8Wh against 691Wh, 40 Nm against 75 Nm, 700 × 40c road tires against 26 × 4.0 fat tires, a rigid fork against 80 mm of hydraulic travel, 330 lb of payload against 440. The Nomad 1 Plus wins every one of those. The T1 ST Plus wins the one that decides how a bike feels: it has a torque sensor and the Nomad has a cadence sensor. Buy the T1 ST Plus if you ride tarmac and have to lift the bike. Buy the Nomad 1 Plus for everything else, and accept that its assist is the cruder of the two.
The T1 ST Plus is $1,399. The Nomad 1 Plus is $1,899. Five hundred dollars is a normal gap between two models in a range, and it is a poor guide to what is happening here.
Take almost any line from either specification sheet and the two bikes are further apart than most cross-brand comparisons on this site. The T1 ST Plus weighs 39 lb; the Nomad weighs 70 lb as a step-through and 71 lb as a high-step. The T1 holds 352.8Wh; the Nomad holds 691Wh. The T1 states 40 Nm from a 350W motor; the Nomad states 75 Nm from a 750W one. The T1 runs 700 × 40c road tires on a rigid fork; the Nomad runs 26 × 4.0 fat tires on 80 mm of hydraulic travel. The T1 carries 330 lb; the Nomad carries 440 lb.
Two things they do share, and both are worth having: every UL number Velotric publishes — UL 2849 for the system, UL 2271 for the pack, UL 2580 cells, ISO 4210 for the frame — and a 46T chainring on 170 mm cranks driving a Shimano 8-speed.
The energy, and what the $500 is buying

$1,399 ÷ 352.8Wh = $3.97 per watt-hour. $1,899 ÷ 691Wh = $2.75. The cheaper bike charges 44 per cent more for each watt-hour it stores, and the T1 ST Plus is the most expensive energy on this site — dearer than EUNORAU’s SPECTER-S at $3.57, which costs more than twice as much as a whole bike.
There is a second way to read the same numbers that is more useful when you are standing in front of both.
691 − 352.8 = 338.2Wh more in the Nomad, for $500. That works out at $1.48 per additional watt-hour, which is cheaper than the average watt-hour in either bike. Measured purely as stored energy, the step up to the Nomad is the best value transaction in Velotric’s range — and it is exactly the wrong way to think about the T1 ST Plus, because 352.8Wh is not a shortfall in that bike, it is the design.

what the T1’s 70-mile claim requires
Five watt-hours a mile is a very light draw — lighter than most riders will ever see, even on a 39 lb bike with a torque sensor. The Nomad’s 12.6Wh per mile is a plausible figure for a fat-tire bike at PAS 1. Of the two claims, the Nomad’s is much the more believable, and it is the smaller number.
Now do it at draws you might actually see. A light bike with narrow tires and a torque sensor at moderate assist draws somewhere around 10 to 15Wh per mile: 352.8Wh ÷ 12 ≈ 29 miles, 352.8 ÷ 15 ≈ 24. Plan on 25 to 30. A fat-tire bike at moderate assist draws 18 to 25Wh per mile: 691Wh ÷ 20 ≈ 35 miles, 691 ÷ 25 ≈ 28. Plan on 28 to 38.
The result is quietly instructive. The Nomad carries very nearly twice the energy and goes perhaps a quarter further, because most of the extra is spent moving 31 more pounds through four-inch tires. Doubling a battery does not double a range; it buys back what the rest of the bike spends. Why claimed range is never the range you get works through the same point at greater length.
The inversion: the cheap bike has the good sensor
This is the reason the comparison is interesting rather than obvious.
The T1 ST Plus has a torque sensor. The Nomad 1 Plus has a cadence sensor. Every other specification favours the dearer bike, and this one — the one you meet at every set of lights — does not.
What each does
A cadence sensor asks whether the pedals are turning. If they are, the motor delivers whatever assist level you have selected; if they stop, it stops. Pushing harder changes nothing, easing off changes nothing. The motor arrives a beat after you set off and holds a fixed output until you quit pedalling. On a 70 lb fat-tire bike that beat is long enough to be a thing you learn to ride around.
A torque sensor measures how hard you are pressing and scales the assist to match. Stand on the pedals at the foot of a rise and the motor rises with you; soft-pedal on the flat and it recedes. The bike behaves like stronger legs rather than like a separate power source you switch on.
And it compounds with the battery
There is a second-order effect that matters more here than on most pairs. Because assist tracks effort rather than sitting at a set level, a torque sensor tends to draw less over a mixed ride. On a 352.8Wh pack — the smallest on this site by a wide margin — that is not a nicety, it is part of how the bike gets anywhere at all.
Which is to say: the sensor is not a bonus feature Velotric happened to fit to the cheap bike. It is load-bearing. A 352.8Wh cadence bike would be a poor thing.

Weight, and the shape of ownership
39 lb vs 70–71 lb

Thirty-one to thirty-two pounds. Put another way, the T1 ST Plus weighs a little over half what the Nomad weighs, and that changes what owning the bike is like more than any performance figure here.
Thirty-nine pounds is a bike you lift. Up a flight of stairs, onto a car rack single-handed, into a lift, over a barrier, into the back of an estate car. It is by a wide margin the lightest bike we cover — the next lightest is VTUVIA’s SF20H at 60 lb, and the heaviest here are around 110 lb.
Seventy pounds is a bike you wheel. You can get it over a kerb and onto a hitch rack rated for it, and that is roughly where it ends. If the bike has to come indoors up stairs every night, the Nomad is not a bike you own, it is a bike you resent.
The reverse is just as decisive. The T1 ST Plus is rated to 330 lb all in — you, your clothing, the lock, the bag and everything in it. The Nomad is rated to 440 lb, joint highest on this site alongside the Packer 1 and 90 lb clear of the next best. Surface, suspension and brakes
The T1 ST Plus is the only bike on this site without suspension of any kind: a rigid 6061 aluminium fork with a 12 × 100 mm thru-axle. On a 39 lb bike that is a weight decision rather than a cost one, and the 40c tires and the frame do what damping there is. On broken tarmac you will feel all of it.
The Nomad’s fork is 80 mm of hydraulic travel with a lock-out. Hydraulic damping means it settles rather than pogoing, and the lock-out gives you a rigid front end for the road section, which coil-sprung forks at this price generally cannot.
Tires run the same way. The T1’s KENDA 700 × 40c is the only non-fat tire on this site and sits on the largest rim here at 700c: it rolls properly on tarmac and gives up everything on sand, snow or loose gravel. The Nomad’s 26 × 4.0 puncture-resistant fat tires float where the T1 would wash out, do suspension work no fork can, and drag everywhere else. The fat tire guide sets out that trade in full.
Brakes are a rare case of the cheaper bike publishing more. Velotric states TEKTRO hydraulic discs on 160 mm rotors for the T1 — the smallest rotor on this site, and defensible on a 39 lb bike since there is far less to stop. For the Nomad it states "hydraulic disc brakes" and nothing else: no rotor diameter, no piston count.
Motor, gearing and hills
Forty newton-metres against 75. Three hundred and fifty watts, peaking at 600, against 750 watts with no peak figure published.
The T1’s 40 Nm is the lowest torque on this site and its 350W the lowest rated output, and on a 39 lb bike both read differently than they would on a heavy one — there is simply less mass to shift. It is adequate on rolling ground and thin on a sustained climb, particularly loaded.
The gearing hints at the same thing from the other side. Both bikes run a 46T chainring on 170 mm cranks into a Shimano 8-speed, but the T1 gets an 11–32T cassette and the Nomad a 13–34T with a KMC chain. The heavier bike has the lower bottom gear, which is what a heavier bike needs, and the lighter bike has the taller top gear, which is what a bike meant to hold 28 MPH needs. Speed, fit and the small print
The T1 ST Plus is stated as Class 1 and Class 3, shipping at 20 MPH and adjustable between 12 and 28 MPH. Class 3 is barred from some bike paths and permitted on roads in most US states; the setting is yours and so is the responsibility for checking your local rule.
For the Nomad, Velotric states 20 MPH and no class designation at all, where it gives one for both of its stablemates. With a removable thumb throttle at 20 MPH it reads as a Class 2 bike, but that is our reading rather than Velotric’s claim.
Fit runs strongly the Nomad’s way. It comes in two frames covering 5'1" to 6'4" (step-through) and 5'6" to 6'9" (high-step) — the widest span on this site, and the 6'9" is the tallest rider accommodated anywhere here. The T1 ST Plus comes in one size, Regular, and one colour, Lava. The Nomad offers three colours, though Cyan is step-through only and the high-step is Indigo Gray or Forest.
Two smaller differences worth knowing. The T1 states IPX6 for the bike and IPX7 for the battery; the Nomad states IPX7 for the battery and nothing for the bike. And the T1’s display is a 1.8-inch colour unit with Bluetooth against the Nomad’s 3.5-inch backlit LCD — smaller, but the only one of the two with a stated wireless connection. Neither bike publishes a charge time.
The decision
There is a version of this comparison that ends in one sentence: if you have to carry the bike, buy the T1 ST Plus, and if you do not, buy the Nomad 1 Plus. That is close enough to right that it is worth saying first.
Buy the T1 ST Plus if 39 lb solves a problem you actually have — stairs, a rack, a lift, a train — and if your riding is tarmac and hardpack. You get the torque sensor, hydraulic brakes, the only bike here you could describe as quick-rolling, and both UL numbers in writing. Go in knowing that you are paying the most expensive energy on this site for the smallest pack on it, that 25 to 30 miles is the honest planning figure, and that a rigid fork on 40c tires reports every surface faithfully.
Buy the Nomad 1 Plus if the bike lives at ground level. Nearly twice the energy, nearly twice the torque, real suspension, 110 lb more payload, two frames covering almost any rider, and better value for money by every measure this site normally uses. Go in knowing the assist is a cadence system on a 70 lb bike, and that the cheaper bike in the same showroom does that part better.

Common questions
Why does the cheaper Velotric have the better sensor?+
We can only observe that it does. The T1 ST Plus at $1,399 has a torque sensor; the Nomad 1 Plus at $1,899 and the Packer 1 at $2,199 both have cadence sensors. One reasonable reading is that a 352.8Wh pack cannot afford a cadence sensor: because a torque sensor scales assist to effort rather than holding a set level, it draws less over a mixed ride, and on the smallest battery on this site that is not a nicety but part of how the bike works at all. Whatever the reason, if assist feel is what you care about, the money points the wrong way in this range.
Is the Nomad’s bigger battery worth $500?+
As stored energy it is good value: 691 − 352.8 = 338.2Wh more for $500, which is $1.48 per additional watt-hour — cheaper than the average watt-hour in either bike. But it does not translate into proportionate miles. At realistic draws the T1 gives about 25 to 30 miles and the Nomad about 28 to 38, because most of the extra energy goes into moving 31 more pounds through 26 × 4.0 tires. Buy the Nomad for the payload, the suspension and the torque; the range advantage is smaller than the capacity suggests.
Will the T1 ST Plus really do 70 miles?+
Almost certainly not, and Velotric is unusually straight about why: the figure assumes a 187-lb rider using PAS 1 in Eco on flat roads. 352.8Wh ÷ 70 miles is about 5.0Wh per mile, which is a very light draw. A more typical figure for a light bike with a torque sensor at moderate assist is 10 to 15Wh per mile, putting real range between roughly 24 and 35 miles. Plan on 25 to 30. Velotric is the only brand on this site that publishes the conditions at all, which is why its claims are easier to check than most.
Which one is better on hills?+
The Nomad, on the numbers: 75 Nm against 40 Nm, 750W against 350W rated, and a lower bottom gear at 13–34T against the T1’s 11–32T. Against that, the T1 has 31 fewer pounds to lift and a torque sensor that responds when you push. On a short rise the T1 is fine. On a sustained loaded climb, 40 Nm is the lowest torque figure on this site and you will feel it. Neither is a hill specialist — both are rear hub motors, and only a mid-drive multiplies torque through the gears.
Can the T1 ST Plus handle gravel or snow?+
No, and it is not pretending to. It runs KENDA 700 × 40c tires — the only non-fat tire on this site — on a rigid aluminium fork with no suspension of any kind, which is the only bike here of which that is true. That combination rolls well on tarmac and hardpack and gives up everything on sand, snow or loose gravel. The Nomad’s 26 × 4.0 fat tires and 80 mm hydraulic fork are built for exactly the surfaces the T1 avoids.
