Who actually ends up comparing these two
These are the two ends of AMYET’s range: the cheapest, calmest bike against the most capable one, $380 apart. Almost nobody arrives at this comparison by accident. Shoppers usually reach it one of two ways.
The first is someone who started at the EB26 on price and then thought harder about their route — a long climb on the way home, a gravel section, a stretch of sand or winter slush — and realised a single 1000W hub motor and 720Wh might not be enough for it. The second is someone who started at the S8 because it looks like the best bike, and is now checking whether they can talk themselves down $380.
Those two people need different answers, so it is worth being direct: this is not a value comparison. The bikes are not competing for the same job. One is a commuter that happens to have fat tires; the other is a terrain bike that happens to be street-legal-ish. Price: $380 between the ends of the range
AMYET lists the EB26 at $669, down from $799, and the S8 at $1,049, down from $1,599. The S8 costs about 57% more — the widest gap in the line.
For context, the middle bike, the G60, is $689. The EB26 and G60 sit twenty dollars apart; the S8 sits a long way above both. That shape tells you something: AMYET’s two single-motor bikes are variations on one idea, and the S8 is a different idea altogether.
That figure is worth sitting with, because it undercuts the usual assumption that the budget bike is the value pick. On battery alone the S8 is better value than the EB26, and it also carries a second motor, hydraulic brakes and full suspension. The EB26’s claim on your money is not efficiency. It is that it costs $380 less in absolute terms, which is the only currency that matters if the $380 does not exist.
Battery: 720Wh against 1200Wh
The EB26 carries a 48V 15Ah pack, which is 720Wh. The S8 carries 48V 25Ah, or 1200Wh. That is 67% more stored energy — the largest capacity gap between any two bikes in the range.
The arithmetic matters more than either claim. Divide the pack by a consumption rate and you get a planning figure:
- EB26, moderate pedal assist on road, ≈25Wh/mile: 720Wh ÷ 25 ≈ 29 miles. An ESTIMATE.
- EB26, throttle-heavy, ≈24Wh/mile: 720Wh ÷ 24 = 30 miles — consistent with AMYET’s own throttle-only figure, which suggests their number is honest.
- S8 with both motors on rough ground, ≈40Wh/mile: 1200Wh ÷ 40 = 30 miles. Also an ESTIMATE — and roughly the same distance as the EB26, despite 67% more battery.
That last line is the one to remember. Two motors, more weight and harder terrain consume the capacity advantage. The S8’s bigger pack is not there to give you more miles; it is there to stop the second motor from taking miles away. Two practical notes. The EB26’s battery is listed as IP65 rated, which is a specific water-ingress claim on the pack; the S8 is listed as IP54 for the bike. Charge time on the EB26 is stated as 5–8 hours; AMYET publishes no charge time for the S8, only that it supports dual charging. One rear motor against all-wheel drive
The EB26 uses a 1000W rated brushless rear hub motor with a claimed 1500W peak. The S8 uses two 1000W motors, 2000W rated combined with a claimed 3000W combined peak, driving both wheels.
Rated power is what a motor sustains without overheating; peak is a short-burst figure for pulling away or cresting a rise. Both bikes claim the same peak per motor, so the S8’s advantage is not that its motors are stronger. It is that there are two of them, on two different wheels.
Why a driven front wheel changes things
A rear hub motor puts all its effort through one contact patch. On dry tarmac that is fine — grip is not the limit. On loose gravel, sand, snow or wet grass it is very much the limit: the rear wheel breaks traction, the motor spins uselessly, and the bike stops climbing. Splitting the effort across two wheels asks less grip of each tire, which is why all-wheel drive transforms loose-surface and steep riding while doing almost nothing on a smooth road.
On a long climb there is a second effect. A single hub motor asked to sustain full output for several minutes gets hot, and controllers cut power to protect the motor. Sharing the load between two motors keeps each cooler. Neither bike’s listing gives thermal data, so this is mechanism rather than measurement — but it is the mechanism behind why dual-motor bikes hold speed on long gradients where single-motor bikes fade.

Wheels, suspension and how each one rides
This is the one area where the cheaper bike has an argument the expensive one cannot answer.
The EB26 runs 26 × 4-inch tires. The S8 runs 20 × 4-inch. Both have the same 4-inch air volume, which is what makes fat bikes forgiving over potholes and gravel, but diameter is not interchangeable. A 26-inch wheel meets an obstacle at a shallower angle, climbs out of it rather than dropping in, and loses less momentum doing so. Over a long stretch of broken tarmac at 20 MPH, the bigger wheel is simply calmer. It also suits taller riders better — a 20-inch fat bike can feel small under a long frame.
The S8 answers with architecture rather than diameter: AMYET lists it as full suspension, against the EB26’s lockable aluminium dual shock absorbers. Those are different solutions to different problems. Full suspension keeps a wheel in contact with an uneven surface, which is a traction requirement on trail. Lockable shocks let you firm the bike up for smooth road, which stops it bobbing under pedalling effort and wasting energy — a commuting requirement.
Neither listing publishes travel, damping type or adjustability, so the quality of either system cannot be judged from the specification sheets. The frames differ too. AMYET lists high-carbon steel for the EB26 — more forgiving over rough ground and cheaper to repair than aluminium, but heavier — and a full-suspension fat-tire frame for the S8.
Brakes, certification and the trade nobody mentions
The EB26 has dual mechanical disc brakes. The S8 has hydraulic discs. This is a straightforward win for the S8, and on the heavier, faster, hill-oriented bike it is a necessity rather than a luxury.
Mechanical discs pull the pad through a cable: softer lever feel, braking force dependent on hand strength, and cable stretch that needs adjusting out as the system beds in. Hydraulic discs self-adjust, need far less hand force, and modulate better — which is what you want on a long descent when your hands are tired and you are controlling speed rather than simply arresting it.
Where the cheaper bike wins
Certification. AMYET states that the EB26 complies with UL 2849 and lists an IP65 battery. The same UL 2849 claim does not appear on the S8 listing.
To be exact: it is not published for the S8. That is not evidence the bike is uncertified and we will not report it as such. But UL 2849 covers the complete electrical system rather than the pack alone, and several US cities and a growing number of building managers and insurers now require it before a bike may be stored or charged indoors. A buyer who needs that documentation has it for the EB26 and does not have it for the S8, and should ask AMYET directly.
For a $669 bike to hold a safety claim that a $1,049 bike’s listing does not is worth flagging plainly, particularly for apartment dwellers.
Speed, weight, assembly and the law
AMYET claims up to 28 MPH for the EB26. For the S8 they quote up to 32 MPH in some places and up to 35 MPH in others; we use the lower, more consistently published figure and flag the inconsistency rather than picking the flattering one.
That gap is a legal distinction, not just a performance one. Around forty US states use a three-class framework in which Class 3 is pedal assist to 28 MPH. The EB26 lands exactly on that line. The S8, at either published figure, sits above it — outside all three classes in those states, which can mean it is not legally an e-bike there. Most bikes in this category ship with a configurable speed limit in the display, but the EB26 arrives compliant and the S8 does not. Check your own state, county and city rules, and expect shared-path rules to be stricter than road rules.
On weight, AMYET publishes no bare bike weight for either model. The only EB26 figure available is a 30 kg (about 66 lb) shipping weight, which includes packaging, so the bike itself is lighter by an unstated amount. For the S8 there is nothing at all — though a second hub motor, a 1200Wh pack and full suspension make it clearly the heavier machine. Neither number is good enough to plan a car rack around; ask AMYET if it matters.
Assembly is a real cost difference. The EB26 ships 90% assembled with a toolkit, manual and key. For the S8, AMYET recommends professional installation — reasonable for a full-suspension dual-motor bike with hydraulic brakes, and an expense to add on top of the $380. The verdict
These bikes answer different questions, so the verdict is a question rather than a winner: does your route have something in it that a single rear hub motor and 720Wh will struggle with?
If no — buy the EB26. On road, on bad tarmac, on flat or rolling ground with rides under about 25 miles, it does the job for $669, arrives Class 3 compliant, ships 90% assembled, carries the UL 2849 claim and rolls more comfortably than any 20-inch bike in the range. Spending $380 more would buy capability you would never call on.
If yes — buy the S8, and do not compromise. Sustained climbs, sand, snow, loose gravel, heavy loads and long descents are exactly the conditions where all-wheel drive, hydraulic brakes and full suspension stop being specifications and start being the reason the ride works. A cheaper bike bought for that terrain gets replaced, which costs more than $380.

Common questions
Is the S8 worth $380 more than the EB26?
Only if your terrain asks for it. The $380 buys a second 1000W motor driving the front wheel, 480 extra watt-hours, hydraulic rather than mechanical disc brakes, and full suspension. On sustained climbs, sand, snow or loose gravel those change how the bike behaves fundamentally. On a road commute they add weight and cost for capability you never use, and the EB26 rolls more comfortably on its 26-inch wheels. Note also that the S8 needs professional installation according to AMYET, which is a further cost on top of the price gap.
Does the S8’s 1200Wh battery mean much more range than the EB26?
Less than the numbers suggest. The S8 holds 67% more energy, but it feeds two motors on a heavier bike. At a rough 40 watt-hours per mile with both motors working on loose ground, 1200Wh ÷ 40 = about 30 miles, an estimate. The EB26 at around 24Wh per mile on throttle gives 720Wh ÷ 24 = about 30 miles, which matches AMYET’s own throttle-only claim. Ridden gently on flat ground the S8 goes considerably further, but that is riding a dual-motor bike is not needed for.
Which one is legal to ride at its top speed?
The EB26 is the easier of the two to place. AMYET claims up to 28 MPH for it, which is exactly the Class 3 ceiling under the three-class framework around forty US states use. The S8 is quoted at up to 32 MPH in some AMYET material and up to 35 MPH in others, and either figure sits outside all three classes in those states — potentially meaning it is not legally an e-bike there. What it does not give you is the EB26’s 26-inch rolling comfort or the S8’s second motor, hydraulic brakes and full suspension. If your problem is distance rather than terrain or comfort, the G60 solves it most cheaply.
